West Virginia Ski Resort Hit With Wintry Blast

Yesterday, October 16th, Snowshoe Mountain, West Virginia, shared exciting news: the resort had received an early-season dusting of snow.

Admittedly, it was no multi-foot dump, but who's really counting in October?

Here's a look.

Coincidentally, Snowshoe also wrapped up bike park operations yesterday, meaning the arrival of snow was timed perfectly with the turning of the seasons.

It looked like a sufficiently soggy day for some bike racing, with the resort hosting the WVES Snowshoe Epic Enduro.

As for the weather this week at the West Virginian resort, it appears the snow was a one-off for the time being, with temperatures hanging somewhere between the 40s and 60s.

Looking ahead, Snowshoe plans to open for skiing and riding on November 22nd, weather and conditions permitting. That puts us just over a month out from those first turns of the season.

If you haven't already done so, work a ski tune into your calendar -- or splurge on that new setup if you're feeling spendy -- winter has a funny way of sneaking up on unsuspecting skiers.
