Think of director Wes Anderson, and you will likely think of his distinct aesthetic.

Possessing a quirky formalism style that plays with saturated hues and symmetry – his aesthetic has taken social media by storm for the past few months – right on schedule, because Anderson's new film Asteroid City has just reached the silver screen.

While Asteroid City may be set in a  fictional desert town, there is an answer to our Wes Anderson dreams in reality – nestled in  Joshua Tree in the High Desert of California. And the best part? It's available to rent via Airbnb now.

Though not officially afflicted with the director (sorry), this tiny home draws inspiration from his unmistakable style – complete with mid-century modern decorating quirks and a neutral palette that would not look out of place on Wes' sets. Here, we take a tour.

While this home may be tiny, the plot is far from compact. Situated on 2.5 acres of cacti-filled desert land, this home's minimalism allows the surrounding landscape to take center stage.

The open-plan living room and kitchen serve as the focal point of the home – offering room to lounge before cooking up a dinner party in the desert. Kitchen appliances aside, the small room showcases a range of Wes Anderson-inspired decor quirks, from the perfectly curated accessories to the two identical armchairs (for that all-important symmetry).

Beyond the wooden-hued living space, the home has two bedrooms, including the primary suite with a king-size bed and French doors to the patio. Meanwhile, the guest bedroom has two surprisingly spacious closets and a twin-sized day bed with a view of the olive and Joshua trees (that are described as great for bird watching).

It is beyond the main home, however, where we find the most impressive part of the property. Yes, outside, the home has a full bath with French lime plaster walls and a rain shower – offering the rare opportunity to bathe in the Californian desert.

The exterior space was designed to blur the boundaries between indoor/outdoor living (as if the al fresco bath didn't already give this away). Alongside the tub, guests can also enjoy a shaded dining table and chaise lounge chairs for when the sun sets above Joshua Tree.
