These Were the Top Trends of the Year, According to Vogue Runway’s Instagram Followers

This week, we asked our Vogue Runway Instagram followers to take a few fashion polls. You voted on your favorite trends of the year, the best bags, shoes, jewelry, and the most exciting street-style looks too. The results have rolled in and it seems that fashion nostalgia is here to stay. The bourgeois runway trend made an impact too, as did pant suits. Glittery party pumps won in the shoe department, while shoulder carryalls and cell phone holders ruled the best bags category. Delicate pearls had the most votes as far as jewels were concerned, and in street style, everyone seemed to be feeling the head-to-toe beige vibes spotted outside the shows during fashion month.

The numbers below reflect excitement about the fashion that is to come in the new year and what the Vogue Runway audience is coveting now. Check out all of our Instagram poll results below.

Bourgeois Was Best in 2019

Among the Fall 2019 runway trends, bourgeois dressing got top billing among editors, and it seems our followers are on board, too: 74% voted in favor of individual, non-trend-based dressing over over-the-top Camp. Bourgeois refers to the middle classes in French, but it is also commonly used to describe fashion that focuses on separates and uncomplicated but sophisticated style. Other favorite trends of the year included pant suits, rose-printed dresses, and nostalgia.

Over-The-Shoulder Bags Are a Sure Bet

Not so surprisingly, the teeny, tiny, Lizzo-approved bag beat out the giant bag 62% to 38% in our favorite 2019 bags poll. Croc-embossed had some interest at 68%, but it was the practical ’90s-inspired shoulder bag that reigned supreme at 83%.

Jewels Are Best From the Neck Up

Our followers insisted that sparkly statement jewelry was best worn from the neck up, as a necklace, earrings, or a shiny, embellished headband. The biggest draw in the jewelry category seemed to be delicate, small pearl adornments, which pulled in 81% of the votes. Everyone seems to be on the same page here, especially considering that lady jewelry outranked punk jewelry 71% to 29%.

The Great Beige Street Style Movement

Forget the prints, pops of color, and wild styling we often see on the streets outside of the shows during fashion month. This year, Vogue Runway fans were really feeling head-to-toe beige. The earthy, organic hue receive 74% of votes, while brights pulled in only 26%. Mini skirts and tent dresses were nearly neck-and-neck, as were guys in skirts and guys in chaps.
