If You Were Just Dumped, You Could Win a Vacation Inspired by 'The Holiday'
Breakups can be especially tough during the holiday season. Between relatives wondering where your ex is and having to smile for all those family photos even though you’re super sad, you might find yourself buying a Grinch-inspired Christmas tree. Well, if you’ve ever dreamed of a post-breakup getaway, you might be in luck: You could win a stay in a cottage inspired by The Holiday.
Independent Cottages, a service that represents self-catering cottages in the UK, is holding a contest for anyone who has gone through a breakup this year to win a three-night stay for one at a cozy cottage in a picturesque English countryside. Basically, you could be Amanda, played by Cameron Diaz, in Nancy Meyers classic The Holiday. Whether you initiated the breakup, or were dumped, or had a mutual parting of ways (that exists?), you qualify to apply.
The winner will stay at Farthing Cottage in the Cotswolds. Similar to Rosehill Cottage, which was the cottage of Kate Winslet’s character Iris in Surrey in the film, the Farthing Cottage has a wood-burning fireplace, a four-poster bed, exposed ceiling beams, and stone walls. And since it’s the holiday season, it will be decorated for Christmas. Waiting for you when you arrive will be a bottle of Prosecco and a box of chocolates—essentials for getting over an ex.
And if you need more food or you just want to explore a new town, the cottage is just a short walk from Stow-on-the-Wold. The small town has a supermarket, farmers' market, a church, and other shops.
