American Idol went coast-to-coast tonight as the Top 12 performed songs from the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame, which was perfect considering that judge Lionel Richie was inducted in last year’s 2022 class of honorees.

As a result of Idol being live coast-to-coast, voting was live as well, so at the end of the night, the results were revealed with the Top 12 reduced by two to the Top 10. Not bad considering that last week was a blood bath with eight hopefuls sent home.

Also tonight, season eight runner-up and bestselling artist Adam Lambert mentored the Top 12 contestants to help them prep for another night of unforgettable live performances. Adam also took the stage to perform “I Can’t Stand the Rain” off of his solo album High Drama.

Then tomorrow night, the Judges’ Song Contest returns as judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel each suggest songs for the contestants to choose from. Then America will vote for the Top 7 LIVE coast to coast.

Here’s how Sunday night went:

Luke: “It was a huge look for you. It was a huge breakout for you.”

Lucy Love

Song: “All Night Long” by Lionel Richie

Luke: “I am so glad we brought you back. You showed us so much character in your vocal movements that defines your artistry, that is unique to you. It’s so important to continue to be unique to you. Those runs, you put your stamp on it!”

Lionel: “You did such a great job. You took my song and made it your song. That’s crazy good.”

Oliver Steele

Song: “Georgia” by Ray Charles

Lionel: “You do know this is a song we do need to finish tonight. I thought you were going to riff all night long. You did a fabulous job. You put a little reggae thing in there. Adam was right, make everything you.

Colin Stough

Song: “Midnight Rider” by The Allman Brothers Band

Lionel: “I have to get a grip on this situation. That was how you bring nasty to the table. That was a breakout performance right there.”

Nutsa

Song: “The Show Must Go On” by Queen

Katy: “Don’t change. You can’t change. I think you took in what Adam had to say at least at the beginning. You don’t have to always go to 10. You will be Nutsa forever and always.”

Megan Danielle

Song: “Angel from Montgomery” by Bonnie Raitt

Luke: “I am a mess. I am so emotional about what you just did. What you just did will stand up in any room around the world, including the Grammys. What Adam Lambert told you was so right. You are the reason American Idol works.”

Zachariah Smith

Song: “Don’t Bring Me Down” by Electric Light Orchestra

Lionel: “Adam was right. You have to bring the party to the stage. You brought the party to the stage. What I love about you is your attitude. It’s brilliant. You’re entertaining. That’s half of it. The other half is you have to have records.”

Iam Tongi

Song: “Bring it On Home” by Sam Cooke

Katy: “This is what it's like when Iam gets on stage. I can’t even hear myself. You are magic. You are the one."

Luke: “There is no way people can’t love you. People just love you and that’s special. What a huge step you walking out here without your guitar. That was an important moment for you."
