Blake Shelton, John Legend, Gwen Stefani and Camila Cabello paired up their teammates for Night 1 of the Battle Rounds.

The Battle Rounds for season 22 of The Voice began in earnest on tonight as the coaches paired their artists against each other in a sing off to see who would make it to the Knockout Rounds.

Each coach was paired with an advisor for the season for the Battles: Blake Shelton with Jimmie Allen, Gwen Stefani with Sean Paul, John Legend with Jazmine Sullivan, and Camila Cabello with Charlie Puth. The purpose of the advisors is to give the artists some additional information on how to maximize their performances.

Here is how the night broke down:

Battle Round 1: Austin Montgomery vs Tanner Fussell from Team Blake

Song: "Folsom Prison Blues" by Johnny Cash

Winner: Austin Montgomery

Blake said, “Austin and Tanner did an incredible job. At the end of the day, I felt that Austin is in touch with that classic country sound. I think it’s important for this show to have an artist that represents not only country music but that time period. We have these three-way Knockouts coming, which makes it that much more important to build the best team you possibly can, and, sadly, that means there will be a flood of really talented people going home."

Battle Round 2: Jillian Jordyn versus Rowan Grace from Team Gwen

Song: “Fingers Crossed” by Lauren Spencer Smith

Winner: Rowan Grace

Gwen said: “Rowan is so already ready to make a record and has so much control technically over her voice as well. I still can’t believe she picked me to be her coach. I feel so grateful for that.”

Battle Round 3: Dia Malai versus Valarie Hardin from Team Legend

Song: “Bust Your Windows” by Jazmine Sullivan

Winner: Valarie Hardin

John said: "Dia and Valarie, I had to make a tough decision. I do believe that Dia was a little bit better at being in character, but I feel like this is The Voice and I have to honor the better vocalist when I think about who’s going to advance on my team. I feel that Valarie has consistently been the better vocalist than Dia."

Battle Round 4: Steven McMorrarn versus Morgan Myles from Team Camila

Song: “Wrecking Ball” by Miley Cyrus

Winner: Morgan Myles

Camila said, “I am so mad at Morgan and Steven. They both did a great job, but I chose Morgan because I think she’s irreplaceable on this show. Nobody can emote like her. I think Morgan is somebody who could go all the way to the finale.”

Saved: Steven McMorrarn

Camila explained, “I can’t sleep peacefully knowing we haven’t cracked the code yet. That moment. That song. I only get one Save and I see things in Steven that I want others to see.”

The Voice airs Monday and Tuesday night at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
