Coaches Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, Niall Horan and Chance the Rapper have filled their teams for the Playoffs for Season 23 of The Voice, and last week, in the first week of Playoffs, Blake and Chance had to whittle their teams down from five to two artists each as the Live Shows begin on May 15 with a Top 8.

Blake opted to keep NOIVAS and Grace West, while Chance went with Ray Uriel and Sorelle.

Tonight, Team Kelly and Team Niall competed and the artists took the stage and gave it their all in hopes of convincing their coach to pick them to go through to the Live Shows.

Here is how the night broke down:

D. Smooth

Song: “Location” by Khalid

Kelly: “It’s my favorite thing you’ve ever done on the show. It’s funny that Niall brought it up and you were laughing about it, but you sing it different every time. It’s almost like it’s your song. It’s a very rare thing. Congratulations. It was awesome. His voice is so incredible.”

Ross Clayton

Song: “With or Without You” by U2

Niall: “I am so proud of you. Ross is generally known for his softer, more country-leaning rock, so to hand him one of the biggest songs of all time by one of the greatest bands ever is just huge, and you absolutely nailed it as per usual. I have some tough decisions to make today.”

Cait Martin

Song: “Alone” by Heart

Kelly: “I am so stressed out. You know our team is so stacked. Here’s the thing about you, though, you have such a huge voice. What I have to think about is who you are going to be going up against on the other teams and I don’t know if there’s anyone in the competition who can nail a song like you. You should feel so badass right now that you conquered that song. It was so cool.”

Gina Miles

Song: “Wicked Game” by Chris Isaak

Niall: “That is by far your best performance. You know when you hear a voice on the radio and you know that that is that person. You’ve got that distinct tone to your voice that you don’t hear often. I’ve got goosebumps from the performance. You absolutely nailed it. Well done.”

Neil Salsich

Song: “Have a Little Faith in Me” by John Hiatt

Kelly: “It was incredible, and it’s interesting that I feel like I know you more when you’re performing. You are very shy. Well, maybe with me. I can be a lot. We haven’t had a chance to talk a lot but seeing you on stage, though, I see who you are. It’s like home for you. It’s like where you feel your purpose is and your passion. You did an incredible job with that song.”

Tasha Jessen

Song: “Here” by Alessia Cara

Niall: “This song was always going to be a big task, just on breath control alone. And then it got a little bit away, but you picked it up and got back on board. Actually, that was the best half of the performance if you ask me. Your voice is so incredible. From day one, I was a huge fan of Tasha. She did an incredible job. She’s an amazing singer.”

ALI

Song: “Never Alone” by Tori Kelly, Kirk Franklin

Kelly: “Your runs are so interesting, cool, fresh, and different from anybody else. You moved me, which is the kind of artist I like to be surrounded by. ALI does these incredible things that I can’t do. She challenges me and inspires me. She’s remarkable, so that makes it really hard.”

Michael B.

Song: “The Joke” by Brandi Carlile

Niall: “Michael, I can see you connect to this lyric, but you have this ability to show it. Most people can’t. You can do the technicalities, you can do them so well, but your connection to the lyric is unlike anyone else in the competition. I am just so proud of you. Great job, Michael B.”

Holly Brand

Song: “Bring on the Rain” by Jo Dee Messina

Kelly: “We haven’t heard you sing anything like this yet and this is when it gets tough, and you want to show a different side of your voice. You bring us to that place where you’re struggling and it’s painful but you’re going to overcome it. That’s a very cool thing that very few artists can do. Your voice is ridiculous. Great job Holly. I feel like she can conquer different lanes. She’s country but she’s got whistle notes, she’s got runs, she’s a really capable singer of any genre.”

Ryley Tate Wilson

Song: “when the party’s over” by Billie Eilish

Niall: “Fifteen years old. Put that in your mind for a second. I remember being on a show with all the lights and the cameras. It’s not easy, but Ryley is mature beyond his years and puts in performances of someone who has been doing it for 20 and smashes it every single time. I am just so proud of you dude. The things that Ryley does at 15 years old is mind blowing for me. Every time there’s pressure, Ryley just steps up and nails it.”

The Voice continues next Monday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC when the Live Shows begin, and America gets to vote.
