Wendy's Is Giving Away Free Cheeseburgers, Here's How to Get Yours

Forty years ago, Wendy's popularized the saying "Where's the beef?" with a now-famous commercial that aired during the Super Bowl in 1984. To mark the 40th anniversary of the iconic spot, the fast food giant is showing customers exactly where the beef is with a special promotion.

From now until Feb. 12, Wendy's is offering customers a free cheeseburger, known as the Dave's Single, with any purchase at participating Wendy's locations across the country. There's no purchase minimum, but the deal is limited to one burger per order. You can secure your burger in the Wendy's app.

If you want some free burgers for your Super Bowl party, Wendy's has you covered with another deal. If you use the app to place your order, you won't be charged a delivery fee. This offer is only valid through the chain's official app and not third-party delivery apps.

Wendy's 1984 Super Bowl commercial introduced "Where's the beef" into the cultural zeitgeist. The beloved ad features three elderly women staring at a burger with a tiny patty from a fictional fast food chain. Clara Peller, an actress who gained notoriety thanks to her role in the spot (and went on to star in other Wendy's ads), repeatedly yelled what the women were thinking: "Where's the beef?"

It quickly caught on, even being quoted by presidential candidate Walter Mondale that year. To celebrate the special anniversary, Wendy's partnered with Ohio-based apparel company Homage to create six designs celebrating the commercial, including one with Peller's face.
