“Over the past few days, Wendy has experienced complications regarding her Graves’ disease that will require treatment," a statement from her family reads. "Wendy will be under the strict supervision of her physicians, and as part of her care, there will be significant time spent in the hospital. Despite her strong desire to return, she is taking a necessary, extended break from her show to focus on her personal and physical well-being. Wendy thanks everyone in advance for their well-wishes and for respecting her and The Hunter Family's privacy during this time.”

After a two-week hiatus, the 54-year-old host was originally going to return on Monday, January 7. Fans were disappointed when she announced that the date was pushed back to Monday, January 14, because of a shoulder injury.

Just days later, Wendy shared that she needed more recovery time and would be back on Monday, January 21 – leaving a panel of temporary hosts in her place.

Now, we're not sure when she will return, but we're glad she's getting the help she needs, especially because her condition is no laughing matter.

What is Graves' disease?

Graves’ disease is an autoimmune thyroid disease, meaning the antibodies of the immune systems affect the function of the thyroid, a gland located in your neck. But instead of attacking the gland, these antibodies stimulate it, causing the production of more and more hormones.

It affects approximately 1 in 200 people, and has symptoms that include anxiety, heat sensitivity, increased perspiration, and weight loss, among others.

The Queen of Tea first revealed she had Graves’ disease in February of 2018. She noted that she has been living with it for years, and back then, had to take three weeks off to focus on her health.

Concerned fans immediately responded to the latest news with love and support. "Speedy recovery wishes to @WendyWilliams .... her show is the perfect side dish with my morning coffee," one person tweeted. "Get well soon #WendyWilliams! We need the tea hot," said another.

We admire Wendy for making her health a priority and hope to see her fierce comeback soon.

As for The Wendy Williams Show, next week will be filled with episode re-runs. For the following week of January 28,"Hot Talkers!" will be back.
