Wendy’s Just Released a New Baconator Burger for the First Time in 12 Years

It's the first time Wendy's has ever changed the burger.

If we asked you the first menu items to come to mind when we say “Wendy’s,” you’d likely say the Frosty, the chili, and the Baconator. Because there’s really nothing more synonymous with Dave Thomas’ restaurant than the iconic dessert, the one-of-a-kind chili, and the hefty, square-shaped, bacon-packed burger.

Even though you probably can’t picture a Wendy’s menu without the Baconator, it hasn’t actually been around that long. Wendy’s Baconator, which is loaded with two burger patties, six pieces of bacon, cheese, ketchup, and mayo, joined the menu in 2007 and hasn’t seen many changes or iterations since.

In 2011, Wendy’s introduced the Son of the Baconator, which is a smaller version of the monstrous burger. Though it does still have two (smaller) patties, there are only four slices of bacon, plus cheese, ketchup, and mayo, so it’s a tad bit lighter. After that, we haven’t seen any new Baconator burgers in the U.S. (there was a spicy one released in Canada last year)—until now.

Wendy's Launches New Pretzel Baconator

Wendy’s is launching its first-ever new take on the Baconator burger, the Pretzel Baconator, on Nov. 20. The new, limited-time offering combines the best of Wendy’s Baconator with its fan-favorite pretzel bun—most recently found on the beloved Pretzel Bacon Pub Cheeseburger.

The Pretzel Baconator will, of course, have two fresh grilled beef patties, strips of Applewood-smoked bacon, American cheese, ketchup, and mayo sandwiched between two pillowy soft pretzel buns.

With the Baconator being a fan-favorite since 2007 and the pretzel bun since 2013, it’s shocking that these two haven’t been combined sooner. But, better late than never.

The burger will have a soft launch on Nov. 20, with the brand officially announcing it on Nov. 27—but you’ll be able to order it at your local Wendy’s restaurant beginning on the 20th.

There’s no telling just how long the Pretzel Baconator will be on the menu, but we hope that with the love it will no doubt receive, Wendy’s will consider making it a permanent addition to the small (but incredibly meaty) Baconator family.

For now, however, we’re sure the Pretzel Baconator will be sitting pretty next to the other limited-time items, like the Peppermint Frosty and Loaded Nacho Cheeseburger.
