Wellsboro named second-best town in the Northeast by USA Today’s 10Best

WELLSBORO, Pa. (WETM) — USA Today’s 10Best readers voted Wellsboro as the second-best town in the Northeast, and Visit PotterTioga is using this designation to highlight what this small town has to offer.

Wellsboro and 19 other small towns from across the region were nominated to be on the 2024 edition of the “Best Small Town in the Northeast” list. Voters narrowed the 20 nominees down to a ranked list of 10, and Wellsboro’s historic charm and natural beauty earned the town the number two spot on the list.

“Wellsboro embodies the essence of small-town charm,” said Colleen Hanson, executive director of Visit PotterTioga. “This is a place where neighbors become friends, and every corner tells a story. This accolade is a testament to our residents, businesses, and community partners who work tirelessly to make Wellsboro, and the entire PotterTioga region, a truly unique and special place.”

10Best’s panel of experts named Wellsboro’s gas-lit streets transporting visitors to the past and the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon’s natural beauty as some of the reasons it was nominated. The old-fashioned feel of the Wellsboro Diner and the town’s annual Christmas celebration were other reasons Wellsboro was nominated.

When announcing Wellsboro’s rank on the list, Visit PotterTioga said that this win underscores Wellsboro’s rich heritage, vibrant community spirit, thriving arts and cultural scene, and natural beauty. The organization mentioned that as a top-ranked town, Wellsboro is able to attract visitors from near and far with its warm welcome to everyone, annual events like the Pennsylvania State Laurel Festival, and proximity to “must-see” natural attractions like the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon and Cherry Springs State Park.

Wellsboro has been recognized in the past as one of the most beautiful towns in Pennsylvania and for its fall foliage. The Pennsylvania Grand Canyon was on 10Best’s 2017 list of “Best Pennsylvania Attractions.”
