‘Wellness Wednesday’ invites families to stay active

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Mesita Elementary School and Mesita Early Childhood Development Center are teaming up to host “Wellness Wednesday” for students and parents.

“Wellness Wednesday” is a districtwide initiative aimed to encourage kids to participate in physical activity, according to the El Paso Independent School District (EPISD). Parents are also encouraged to join their children.

The events will take place on two separate dates. The first “Wellness Wednesday” will take place from 12:35 p.m. to 2:50 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1 at Mesita Elementary School, at 3307 North Stanton St..

The second “Wellness Wednesday” will take place at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8 at the Mesita Early Childhood Development Center, at 220 Lawton Dr.

According to the EPISD, the events are made possible through the Healthy Lifestyle Initiative grant, sponsored by Walmart. Mesita Elementary School and the Mesita Early Childhood Development Center were among three schools in Texas to receive the grant.

The class from Mesita with the highest parent participation in each grade will be awarded with a smoothie and fruit party and all children will receive a reusable water bottle and sunglasses.
