Wellington cupcake shop to move to Fort Collins' Front Range Village

A Wellington cupcake shop is heading south.

The Cakery, which started as a cupcake truck in May 2017 and opened a brick-and-mortar shop in downtown Wellington a few months later, will start moving its operations to Fort Collins at the end of this year, owner Jackie Isvanca told the Coloradoan Wednesday.

The shop will close its Wellington location, 3706 Cleveland Ave., Saturday. It plans to reopen in mid-January at 2842 Council Tree Ave., Unit 141 — previously home to Poeme Macarons.

After six years in Wellington, The Cakery's building went on the market earlier this year, prompting Isvanca to look at potential new homes for her shop.

The Cupcakery plans to move from Wellington to Fort Collins in early 2024, expanding its offerings and cupcake flavors at Front Range Village.

She ultimately settled on the former Poeme Macarons space, which already had the bakery infrastructure The Cakery needs to hit the ground running. In Fort Collins, Isvanca said she hopes to expand The Cakery's menu to include grab-and-go cakes, breads, brownies and cookies. The shop will also expand its cupcake flavor options, including for its popular gluten-free and vegan varieties, Isvanca said.

"It's a little bit hard," Isvanca said of closing up shop in Wellington. "It's sad to leave our small-town community, but we are excited. The bakery is a passion of ours, and I think we owe it to ourselves to see where it can go."
