'Welcome to Plathville' Star Olivia Plath Announces 'Unexpected' Death of Teen Brother

Welcome to Plathville's Olivia Plath experienced a harrowing loss.

On May 4, the star of the Discovery+ reality show announced on her Instagram Story that her 15-year-old brother Micah Meggs died.

"Hey guys, I'm jumping off social media for a bit. Don't worry if you don't see me around—I'm taking some space now. I lost a young brother last night to an unexpected accident and I need some clarity and space for grieving," she wrote.

She then shared a second Instagram Story a few days later, on May 9, reminding followers that she's "on a social media break due to a family death."

Though Plath didn't share details on her Instagram, local news outlet The Roanoke Times reported on Meggs' death, stating that the teenager died while riding his electric bike at night when he was struck by a Honda Accord. The car is said to have been heading south in the right lane of the same road Meggs was on, as confirmed by the Virginia State Police.

The Meggs family shared an obituary online for the teenager, which says he was a "skilled outdoorsman" who "loved to hang out with his siblings and a few close friends, playing practical jokes, sharing his understated sense of humor and bringing laughs to those he loved."

The obituary also noted that Meggs had Cerebral Palsy caused by a Brachial Plexus injury during his birth, which "made it difficult for him to do the things he enjoyed so much," but "despite the physical difficulties he experienced, Micah never complained or let himself be limited by his disability and continually found ways to pursue his outdoor activities despite this struggle."

The family is asking that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Brachial Plexus Foundation ahead of Meggs' celebration of life on Thursday at Flora Funeral Chapel.
