Welcome to Chippendales dives into the rise of the famous club that became the first to spotlight male strippers performing choreographed routines for an audience of women—and the dark, true crimes of its founder Somen “Steve” Banerjee (played by Kumail Nanjiani). Seeing as the empire began in Los Angeles, it’s fitting that the entire eight-episode limited series was filmed there. Some locations you may recognize from countless other productions, and others you may only dream about seeing in real life. Ahead, learn more about some of the notable filming locations you can spot throughout the show as episodes continue to drop weekly on Hulu. Plus, get behind-the-scenes details from the show’s production designer Richard Bloom.

The original Chippendales was located at 3723 Overland Avenue in Los Angeles. That building now seemingly operates as an adult day care facility, making it unuseable for the show. Instead, a building only a few miles away from the original location was selected to play the exterior of Chippendales; it’s actually a gentleman’s club called PlanB.

“It was a killer location because we had full control of a couple of streets,” Bloom tells House Beautiful. The team started building the layout for the club on set before securing the exterior location, so some aspects like the second floor were visually augmented to make the show’s version of the club seem cohesive and accurate.

Chatsworth

At the beginning of the series, Banerjee is living in a small apartment. As Chippendales garners success, he eventually ends up moving into a classic California ranch-style home with his wife Irene (played by Annaleigh Ashford). As time passes, they upgrade to a larger mansion—and that home, which first appears in episode five of the show, is located in a gated community in the Chatsworth neighborhood of the San Fernando Valley. With multiple doric columns and an extravagant fountain at the front of the house, it's a showstopper.

“That house was a real gem to find because no one had filmed in there, I think, for like 20 years,” Bloom says. The designer explains: “We had scouted a house up the street that I liked a lot that was very ‘80s. But then as we were driving out, one of our amazing location scouts Susanna was like, Look over this fence. We looked over, and we saw that [exterior] spiral staircase. I was like, You have to get in there. And she's like, I'm gonna get in there. It took a few weeks for her, but she ultimately tracked on the owners and they were great.”

When Nick De Noia (played by The White Lotus’s Murray Bartlett) is living in Los Angeles, scenes at his condo building were filmed at a historically designated building known as the Hollywood Riviera in West Hollywood. Built in 1954, the flamingo-colored midcentury edifice at 1400 N. Hayworth Avenue was designed by architect Edward Fickett. It’s been used as a filming location for various productions including the 1991 film L.A. Story. One of the units also seems to currently be on the market for $749,000.

When Steve and Nick meet to talk business, they head to The Formosa Cafe. Located in West Hollywood, the iconic Chinese restaurant with red leather booths has been frequented by countless celebrities for decades. The walls feature old black-and-white headshots, many of which are autographed. You may recognize it from productions including Euphoria, Beverly Hills Cop II, and Still Breathing.

The Biltmore Los Angeles

Another Hollywood-favorite filming location is The Biltmore Los Angeles, which acts as the members-only club that Steve gets turned away from in the show. Inside, the iconic Millennium hotel is full of opulent details: 22-foot crystal chandeliers, painted ceilings by muralist Giovanni Battista Smeraldi (John B. Smeraldi), a Roman bath-inspired pool, 24-carat gold accents, and architectural details that range from paneled walls to intricate columns. Various parts of the hotel have appeared in productions including Ghostbusters, Chinatown, Mad Men, Scandal, and Cruel Intentions (to name a few!).
