You might not think Jon Snow and Jaime Lannister have all that much in common, but Vanity Fair writer Joanna Robinson just pointed out that a scene from the second episode of Game of Thrones could have majorly foreshadowed how the show will end.

Spoilers ahead! Don’t even think about reading further if you haven’t watched last night’s episode.

This theory has a few twists and turns, so hang in there. In last night’s episode, there were wildfire explosions in at least two different scenes. Quick reminder, wildfire was Dany’s dad Aerys Targaryen’s favorite weapon, and it’s a known fact he hid some of it within the city.

While there was some speculation that Cersei hid more wildfire in the city, it’s also possible Dany was just setting fire to the wildfire her dad left behind. Very poetic.

For context, when Jaime told Brienne about why he actually killed the Mad King in season 3, he said part of it was because he realized how scary it was to have a leader who loved to watch people burn.

“Have you heard of wildfire? The Mad King was obsessed with it. He loved to watch people burn, the way their skin blackened and blistered and melted off their bones. He burned lords he didn’t like. He burned Hands who disobeyed him. He burned anyone who was against him. Before long, half the country was against him. Aerys saw traitors everywhere. So he had his pyromancers place caches of wildfire all over the city. Beneath the Sept of Baelor and the slums of Flea Bottom. Under houses, stables, taverns. Even beneath the Red Keep itself.”

Cut to Jon making this face while watching Dany literally blow up King’s Landing. It’s a moment where he’s obviously like, “Oh, sh*t, she’s really doing it. She’s lighting everyone up.”

AND Euron conveniently reminded everyone with his last dying breath that Jaime is the Kingslayer.

Here’s where things get interesting. There’s a scene from the very first season that connects Jaime and Jon. This was right before Jon left Winterfell, and they had nothing in common as characters.

“We’re grateful,” Jaime said super sarcastically, “to have good, strong men like you protecting us.”

So when faced with a leader who was out of control and preferred burning people with wildfire to solving conflicts rationally, Jaime made the choice to kill that person. Is Jon about to do the same?

It could be a total stretch, but it could also mean Dany is royally screwed.
