Getting a good night’s sleep is a crucial part of being healthy, but it’s often easier said than done. Kids, work, stress and life in general have a funny way of interfering with people’s ability to get some solid shuteye.
So it’s hardly surprising that research has shown that more than a third of Americans are sleep-deprived. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the Sleep Research Society recommend that adults get at least seven hours of sleep each night. If you’re getting less than that, you could be at risk of developing chronic conditions like obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and stroke.
Sure, some things are out of your control. But if you regularly find that you’re struggling to get enough sleep, you might want to consider trying some sleep saviors. “With sleep products, it’s very individual,” board-certified sleep medicine researcher W. Christopher Winter, MD, of Charlottesville Neurology and Sleep Medicine and author of The Sleep Solution: Why Your Sleep Is Broken and How to Fix It, tells Yahoo Life. “You may not know why you’re not sleeping well, and it’s perfectly reasonable to try different things out to see if they work for you.”
Try out one (or a few) of these products to get a better night’s sleep ASAP.

In a perfect world, you’d slowly wake up with the sunrise. In reality, you might have to get up earlier than that. That’s where Philips’ sleep and wake-up light comes in. This high-tech alarm uses light that gradually increases before your set wake-up time, slowly changing from a soft morning red to orange until your room is well-lit. It’s designed to help slowly wake you up rather than being jarred awake by an alarm that can leave you feeling groggy, Winter says. The light even has a sunset simulation to prepare your body for sleep by gradually reducing the light in your room.
While feeling warm and cozy under the sheets is great, “in general, people tend to sleep better at about 65 degrees,” Winter says. This cool gel mattress has high-quality memory foam that conforms to your body while the cool gel regulates temperature, making every slumber an easy, breezy experience.
"A mattress as cold and hard as my heart," jokes an Amazon shopper. "Excellent mattress. I was hesitant to buy a mattress from Amazon but really needed one and didn’t want to spend thousands at a traditional mattress store. I REALLY needed a new mattress so I bought this and I’m so glad I did. I’m almost 30 and have been sleeping on a hand-me-down for almost 7 years. I’m like, an adult with a real job and deserve a nice mattress, gosh darn it! I feel like an idiot for not buying one sooner. This mattress is lightweight and firm. My back was hurting every morning from my old hunk o junk mattress. Now my pain is gone."

This light bulb, which lasts for up to 20 years, can emit up to 16 million different colors of light that you control from your smartphone or light switch. It also lets you schedule your lights to dim at a certain time of night and customize a light setting at sunrise to gently rouse you in the morning. “It can emit a blue light to slowly help you wake up in the morning,” Winter says.
Says a satisfied customer: "We have five of these. Best thing since sliced bread!"

Weighted blankets are designed to help put a little pressure on your body to help it relax. “It can be really helpful with sleep, especially for people who tend to feel restless,” Winter says. Weighted blankets can get expensive, but this version from Tranquility is pretty cost-effective and has great reviews.
This shopper says it "really does the job for my very fidgety son who has a hard time falling asleep, and it's got the weights even distributed so it doesn't move around a lot at night while he's asleep..."

These sheets are designed to wick away moisture and heat to keep you at the right temperature while you sleep. “You can feel the difference when you sleep on cooling sheets,” Winter says. “They help you stay asleep.” PeachSkin sheets are also lightweight and wrinkle-free — definitely a bonus.
"I get really bad night sweats...These sheets are AMAZING!" raves a five-star shopper. "They are soft and wonderful and they don't get soaked the way my cotton sheets did. I used to wake up in the middle of the night to soaking wet sheets and have to put towels down to sleep on. In the morning they would take FOREVER to dry. But these sheets only feel slightly damp at most and dry super quickly. I am in LOVE."

“Sound machines are absolutely helpful for getting a good night’s sleep,” Winter says. There is a wide range of options and prices out there, but the HoMedics Sound Spa is a great bang for your buck. It allows you to choose from six different sounds — ocean, summer night, rain, rainforest, waterfall and natural heartbeat. You can also plug it in or take it on the go.
Says a fan: "Best sound machine! We have been using this item for 5 years now, and it is brilliant...All of the sound options are great, and there is only one tiny light on the machine (easily covered with a Band Aid) if darkness is important to you."
Shop it: HoMedics Sound Spa Sound Machine, $20, amazon.com
Some people just sleep better when they are cozied up to a body pillow, Winter says. You can use this one to cuddle with, or sleep with your back against it to help you stay on your side (a position that you’re less likely to snore in, Winter says). This pillow also has a ball fiber filling to help support your shoulders, hips, abs and back while you sleep.
"Why did I wait so long?" asks a shopper. "I've been sleeping with a slim pillow between my knees, and 'hugging' a small pillow for years to try to sleep on my side. Due to bad hips, it's a real trick, and painful to say the least. The 'huggy' pillow has gone flat enough where it doesn't hold up my elbow, and really doesn't do any good...so NOW, I have this WONDERFUL body pillow that is SO comfortable that I sleep like a baby with less pain to boot."
