The Weeknd Delivers a Stirring VMAs Performance 1,000 Feet in the Air After Running Into His Ex Bella Hadid
The Weeknd performed at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards.
He took the stage a day after running into his ex, model Bella Hadid. While some fans speculate his songs about heartbreak are about her, they remain friendly.
The 2020 VMAs look a lot different this year, as pandemic precautions necessitated scattering the live performances across New York City, but that didn’t stop The Weeknd from delivering a rousing show 1,000 feet above Hudson Yards despite it. The artist (who’s also known as Abel Tesfaye) is one of the most nominated musicians of the whole night, with nods for Artist of the Year, Video of the Year, R&B Video, Direction, Editing, and Cinematography.
Watch his powerful VMAs performance below, and you’ll understand immediately why he’s up for an impressive six (!) awards tonight:

Despite not having the standard VMAs Barclays Center audience, Abel had plenty of people cheering him on both IRL and online—and one of those cheerleaders is apparently his ex-girlfriend, model Bella Hadid. The two reportedly reunited during VMAs rehearsals in New York City, so clearly they’re friendly exes.
“They played it cool and crossed paths with each other, same place, same time,” a source told Daily Mail, adding they’re “on good terms” with each other despite their on-and-off-again relationship and ultimate split.
With people like that in his corner, it’s no wonder Abel gave such a great performance. Now to wait and see how many trophies he takes home tonight….
