"The film Past Lives is one of the best of the year, which is why I felt it was important to include its director Celine Song in T&C's annual Creative Aristocracy list. Her incredible work wouldn't be possible without the support of MacDowell, the artist residency in Peterborough, New Hampshire that has for over a hundred years cultivated maverick creatives like Song, including James Baldwin, Aaron Copland, Alice Sebold and the playwright Jeremy O. Harris.
