Weekly Astrology Forecast, October 22-28: Releasing Old Patterns

This article originally appeared on Yoga Journal

It's both an emotional and an underground week in astrology, a time when you are invited to look past the surface and explore what exists beyond and underneath, seen and unseen.

Mercury enters Scorpio

Mercury enters Scorpio on October 22, where it will remain until November 10, 2023. Scorpio represents the subconscious, among many things. It is the waters within that live unseen yet impact and direct much of our life. And it is the unconscious patterns that shape our reactions and affect much of our lived experience.

Mercury, on the other hand, represents our conscious mind. It is our thoughts and perspectives, learning and mental processing. It also represents our interests and communication.

Ruled by Pluto, Scorpio is a sign that directs us into empowerment, and it does so through showing us where we have given our power away. As Mercury comes into Scorpio for these next few weeks, it is the conscious meeting the subconscious, and offers the space and support to bring an honest understanding into the unseen workings of our mind and psyche. As we begin pulling back layers from both within ourselves and life around us, we are shown these underlying dynamics and the way in which they may hold power over us, our movements, actions, and thoughts--all so that we may reclaim ourselves and guide our lives with intention and purpose.

Sun Enters Scorpio

Scorpio season begins on October 23 and continues until November 21, 2023. As the Sun shifts into the transformative sign of Scorpio, it joins Mars and Mercury in the watery zodiac sign.

The Sun--representing our sense of self, consciousness, and life force--enters the waters of the Pluto-ruled sign and we, too, are invited to enter the world of Scorpio. We are invited to immerse ourselves so deeply within it that we can become it for a moment, allowing it to come alive within our minds and bodies, and beginning to navigate life through its lens. It is an inward season of transformation and depth, renewal and determination, emotion and desire.

Being a water sign, Scorpio is ruled by emotion and invites us to peer into the psyche and be with the underlying emotions that drive our desires, feed our fears, and spark our passions. It invites us to swim within our feelings as if they were the doorway to rebirth, and this season, they might just be.

It also asks us to trust those same emotions, for they hold deep wisdom, insights from our body, and memories within our subconscious. It is a season to trust in the emotional movements of your body, your hunches, gut responses, or intuition that seems to drop in from places unknown. These will only become heightened and fine tuned as the Sun’s expression is filtered through Scorpio.

Lunar Eclipse in Taurus

A lunar eclipse meets us as a full Moon traverses the lunar nodes, which are mathematical points in space. Where the Moon's path intercepts the ecliptic, or the apparent path of the Sun, are the lunar nodes. The north and south nodes represent destiny and purpose, bringing a force of energy through the fullness of the Moon and adding an element of alignment. It is often within an eclipse that we meet deeply effective inner or outer shifts, ones that seem to shift things for years to come.

This week’s full Moon lunar eclipse in Taurus meets us on October 28 and, aside from being an eclipse, holds another layer of release. In November 2021, we stepped into a new cycle of eclipses in Taurus. For these last two years, we have been unfolding, releasing, building, healing, and becoming in the world of Taurus until we meet our last Taurus lunar eclipse. The end of a cycle. The closing of a door. The final moment in a season the self. Who have we become in this time? And who we do we now stand as at the end of this road?

This full Moon lunar eclipse comes as a final release of anything that sits in the way of our full arrival in the lands of Taurus. As the Taurean song of peace and simplicity lay at the grounds of this lunation, the waves of the eclipse and the Sun in Scorpio invite a deep release. A release from within our bodies--the emotions in our fascia and the memories in our muscles, the patterns in our nervous system and the tension in our posture, the fears in our hearts and the stories in our minds. A final release so that we may arrive in the world of embodied being, presence, and trust in ourselves to meet with anything that may present itself.

Your Invitation

Scorpio is a common thread throughout the week, existing within each transit. It is a sign that reads the emotions behind the words, the intentions behind the actions, and the patterns behind the ways of being. There is much to be discovered and realized this week from both within and without.

It's a week of transformation. More than any other sign, Scorpio reminds you that transformation is a constant and that it is your nature to shift, evolve, shed, become, and release. It holds the space for death and rebirth within each moment. It reminds you that to receive you must first release, to be reborn you must first die, and that to navigate the process there must be an element of surrender. You cannot control transformation, you cannot orchestrate your rebirth, and you cannot journey through these waters solely through the mind.

The felt experience--emotion, intuition, an inner knowing--is the doorway into yourself this week, and your opportunity to reclaim an inner strength. This week, this eclipse, and this season are a reminder that you can do uncomfortable things. You can be with what you have labeled as scary even if it sits within the unknown. You can be with emotions that seem to take you deeper than what is comfortable. You can claim your desires even if you wobble. And you can trust yourself each step of the way. Because it is within each of these spaces that you are reborn, again and again, as more of yourself.
