Weekly Astrology Forecast, June 18-24: Feeling At Home in Your Life

This article originally appeared on Yoga Journal

There is a sacredness inherent in the week as we experience the coming home of Cancer season, take on the blessings of Summer Solstice, and witness Jupiter and Saturn come together in a sextile.

Jupiter Sextile Saturn

As planets form shapes and angles with one another during their orbits, it can feel as if these planetary bodies are collaborating and inviting us into their shared intention. So it is with a sextile, which is a 60-degree relationship between two planets’ locations relative to one another.

The coming together of Jupiter and Saturn in the night sky in a sextile is a harmonious collaboration worth celebrating. Jupiter, in astrology, is the planet that offers us hope. It shows us that there is always room for more--more love, more flow, more joy, more light, more growth, more potential. Jupiter invites us to imagine and dream, to reach out in favor of our desires, and to lean into our future. It keeps us moving, growing, and evolving.

Saturn, which just turned retrograde, is a planet of stability and longevity, responsibility, and practical action. Saturn keeps us bound in tangible reality, the laws of matter, and the limitation of time.

As Jupiter and Saturn come together in a sextile on June 19, they invite tangible progress forward, stable growth, and practical action toward our dreams. This is a beautiful atmosphere in which to reach out toward your hopes, wishes, and visions for your future and plant them deep into the ground beneath you.

Sun Enters Cancer | Cancer Season Begins

Astrology is based on a geocentric perspective. That is, it is based on our view on Earth. This relates everything to our human experience of the cosmos--what we can see, what we can feel, and what we can receive here in our bodies and on the Earth.

From this human-centered perspective, the Sun moves through the constellations of all 12 zodiacs within an astrological year, spending roughly one month in each sign. The time spent in each sign is what we call an astrological season, and is an invitation to sink into the invitations, energies, colors, intentions, and overall essence of this zodiac. It is an invitation to witness where and how that zodiac lives within us and expresses through us. In turn, it is also our opportunity to meet and nurture this part of ourselves.

As the Sun shifts into the comforting waters of Cancer froom June 21 to July 22, Gemini season comes to an end and we will receive invitations related to healing, nurturing, safety, family, and emotions.

Cancer is home. Not just our physical home, but everything in life that is home to us. Our family. Our culture. Our roots. Our body. Our loved ones. Our comforts and securities. Our favorite foods and memories from childhood. That book we keep around. Cancer is the sanctuary that lives within us and the sanctuary that we create around us. Cancer is our emotional world, offering the gift of sensitivity and heightened intuition.

As the Sun journeys through the waters of Cancer, we are invited to come home--to ourselves, to our needs, to our loved ones, and to our bodies. It's an internal season, a private month. It's a moment in time to return to what and who really matters to us, and to be nurtured and filled up by those chosen things and people.

Summer Solstice

Within ancient cultures, mythology, and esoteric history, there has been an honoring and celebration of the Sun cycles for as long as we know. This dance that the Sun and Earth move through is one of the many sequences that allow for life to exist--trees to grow, waves to crash, time to exist, and humans to live.

As Cancer season begins, June 21 marks the summer solstice for the northern hemisphere and the winter solstice for the southern hemisphere. The word "solstice" comes from the Latin words sol ("Sun") and sistere ("to stand still"). On this day, for an astronomical moment in time, the Sun stands completely still, acting as a peak moment within this sacred dance of the Sun and Earth.

The summer solstice is the longest day of the year. Of the 365 days, this day holds the most light. It is the portal of time and space that happens when the Sun and Earth are the closest they will ever be in their dance. On this day, the Sun illuminates the most light it ever will, and the Earth, and therefore we, receive the most light we ever will. It is a peak of expression, fullness, strength, abundance, fertility, creativity, warmth, receptivity, and activation.

As the Sun stands still, we are invited to hold that same stillness, presence, beingness, and reverence, for it is on this day and within this presence that we are offered the energy, wisdom, and insight that is shared through the Sun's rays. We can allow it to support us through the next stage of our dance and the next season of our lives.

Your Invitation

As Jupiter and Saturn shine this week, explore the practicalities of your dreams. Try taking responsibility for making them real and see how it fits and feels. Organize and plan how this future vision of yours could become real. This is a time to believe in yourself and remember your deep worthiness. Be realistic about your strengths and celebrate them. Be realistic about where you need support and organize it. Your invitation is to let hope feel safe once again and to trust in yourself enough to pursue the dreams in your heart.

The days that follow this sextile bring a new beginning. As Cancer season begins and the Summer Solstice blesses us with its presence, trust and know that you are on the precipice of something new. Cancer invites you home and to experience clarity around who you are and what matters to you. The Sun illuminates and opens a doorway into all that you need for your next chapter.
