So, you think you can’t grow roses in the Wilmington area? Well think again! The Wilmington Cape Fear Rose Society is a nonprofit educational organization that promotes the culture and appreciation of the rose - America's national flower.

The Wilmington Cape Fear Rose Society has been in existence for 21 years. They host a monthly meeting to help you learn the basics of growing roses in our area. Two-hour meetings consist of what to do each month in your rose garden. Meeting topics include soil preparation, fertilizing, spraying for fungus or insects, watering and timely pruning, tools needed and types of roses. Additionally, meetings often have guest speakers offering power point presentations and hands on activities.

The society supports two local charities each year. They are the New Hanover County Ability Garden and Cape Fear Community College Horticulture Science Program.

The society will host its 21st annual rose tour this Saturday, May 4th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (information and gardens locations are listed at https://www.wcfrs.org/rose-tour.html). Eight gardens are available this year to enjoy. The garden owners will be present to answer any questions. The tour is free to the public. Come and enjoy.
