A week of fundraisers is planned for LMPD officer Nickolas Wilt. Here's what to know

The City of St. Matthews and Independence Bank are hosting a week of fundraisers in support of Louisville Metro Police Officer Nickolas Wilt, who was recently released from University of Louisville Hospital after being shot in the head while responding to a mass shooting.

"Wilt Week," as the series of events is being called, will start Tuesday night with a collection booth at the St. Matthews Police Department National Night Out and will continue through a car show on Friday.

Organizers will announce how much money was raised Saturday during the St. Matthews Potato Festival at 310 Ten Pin Lane.

Wilt, 26, was shot April 10 while responding to a shooting at Old National Bank downtown, which left five dead and eight others injured.

Before he left the hospital last week, Wilt underwent brain surgery, therapy at the Frazier Rehabilitation Institute and battled pneumonia, a common condition for patients who have been placed on a ventilator.

"They say it's a long road, it's a marathon, but every day he's ready to go," his brother Zack Wilt said during a press conference. "He'll probably be embarrassed that I say this, but his little catchphrase when we wheel him out every day out of his room is, 'Let's boogie woogie.'"

Here is the schedule for Wilt Week:

  • St. Matthews Police Department National Night Out: Independence Bank will have a donation collection booth from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Matthews Park, 310 Ten Pin Lane.

  • 4 Wheels for Wilt - Jeep Show: The event will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Gateway parking lot in St. Matthews, 5005 Shelbyville Road.

  • Family Fun for Wilt: The St. Matthews Community Center will have different activities between 5 and 8 p.m. Thursday at 310 Ten Pin Lane. The event includes a St. Matthews Donate to Dine raffle, Battle of the Badges (a softball scrimmage between the police and fire departments), Home Run Derby, a dunking booth, face painting, inflatables, free family photos and a silent auction.

  • Two Wheels for Wilt - Bike Show: The event will run from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Gateway parking lot in St. Matthews, 5005 Shelbyville Road.

  • Hot Wheels for Wilt - Car Show: See the cars between 5 and 8 p.m. Friday at the Dillard's parking lot at Mall St. Matthews, 5000 Shelbyville Road.
