These “weed donuts” taste like marijuana, but they can’t get you high
Some brilliant people in California have created special donuts in honor of April 20th, a date many marijuana aficionados deem a holiday. The Guild Dispensary in San Jose teamed up with the creative bakers at Psycho Donuts to make this munchie-worthy treat.
The weed donuts will be available at the Guild Dispensary in San Jose from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. today.
Technically, the first donuts will be available at 4:20 pm, because of course they will.
But, unlike many edible marijuana products, these donuts will not get you stoned. Thanks so some savvy science, the sweet treats only have the taste and smell of weed. So the only high you’ll feel from consuming them will be a sugar high.

According to Mashable.com, a sister company of the Guild Dispensary, Guild Extracts, provided the donut makers with cannabis-derived terpenes. Terpenoids are one of the two chemical compounds that make up marijuana. The other chemicals are cannabinoids, including the famous cannabinoid THC, which is what makes people stoned.
Terpenoids, on the other hand, are what make all sorts of plants and foods smell differently from each other.
The company isolated the terpenoids in marijuana that give weed its distinctive smell and taste.

And, using state-of-the-art experimental baking, they infused them into the icing of these special donuts.
The Guild Dispensary and Guild Extracts hope create even more benefits of cannabis by delivering these isolated weed compounds in creative ways.
And their partnership with the impressive bakers at Psycho Donuts seems like a perfect match. The California-based bakers are already well-known for their innovative and drool-worthy desserts.

So it seems only natural that they’d be willing to experiment with something as delightfully delicious as these special baked goods for people who enjoy “baking” themselves.
FYI: If you are interested in trying the treats, you will still need a medical marijuana card in order to get them. Despite the fact that they lack THC, California doesn’t yet have practices in place for legal recreational marijuana usage. But if these desserts prove popular enough – and once those practices are in place – we could be seeing a lot more foods like these in the future.
