Wedding Photographer Pleads with Guests to Stop This Common Behavior

A Texas wedding photographer recently made one of the most compelling arguments for an unplugged wedding we’ve ever seen.

Earlier this month, Fort Worth-based Hannah Stanley of Hannah Way Photography shared a photo from a wedding that has sent shivers down the spines of countless brides-to-be and enraged wedding professionals around the world.

In the now-viral Facebook post (below), a guest can be seen extending her arm out into the middle of the aisle to take a cellphone photo as the bride enters the church with her father, completely obscuring Stanley’s view of the emotional moment—a moment the couple would likely preferred to have captured by their photographer.

Though the seasoned photographer quickly moved to get a clean shot, later that night she took social media with a PSA that has since been shared more than 176,000 times.

“To the girl with the iPhone...,” Stanley’s message begins. “Not only did you ruin my shot, but you took this moment away from the groom, father of the bride, and the bride. You wanted to take a photo with your phone, blocking my view, and taking a photo that you will not use."

She went on to conclude with a heartfelt plea to wedding guests: “Please stop viewing weddings you attend through a screen but instead turn OFF your phone, and enjoy the ceremony,” she advised. “You are important to the bride and groom, you would not be attending the wedding otherwise. So please, let me do my job, and you just sit back, relax and enjoy this once in a lifetime moment.”
