A wedding reception at a Key West, Fla., restaurant came to an abrupt end on Dec. 15 when a groomsman accidentally stabbed the groom, fled the scene and fell from the restaurant’s balcony.

According to the Miami Herald, groomsman Jovanny Arredondo, 29, the groom, Nicolas Camargo, 29, and a group of fellow groomsmen had just imbibed a round of shots when Arrendondo pulled out a double-edged automatic knife and started to play with it at the bar.

Camargo asked his groomsman to stop, and Arrendondo began to make a stabbing motion toward the groom. Arrendondo then, allegedly, accidentally stabbed Camargo in the thigh.

Arredondo, “in a panic,” according to the police report, jumped off the second-floor balcony, breaking the first-floor and second-floor balcony railings on his way down. He ran, but police were able to locate him a few blocks away.

Though Camargo does not wish to press charges, Arredondo could be arrested for criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and improper exhibition of a weapon.

“This case does not meet the criteria of aggravated battery because there was no intent by the suspect, Arredondo, to intentionally harm the victim, Camargo,” Key West Police Department Det. Darnell Sealey wrote in the report, obtained by the Miami Herald.

The groomsman caused approximately $1,100 in damages to the restaurant.

The stabbing marked the end of the reception.
