If you’d give anything to go back to the ’90s if only for a moment, then you owe it to yourself to explore the website for the film You’ve Got Mail, which is actually still alive and kickin’. As it turns out, visiting youvegotmail.warnerbros.com will transport you back to 1998 when Google was still a mere infant that hadn’t made it to verb status. Back when Britney Spears was still recording …Baby One More Time. Let that sink in for a little bit.

As soon as you enter the site, the fossilized web design re-introduces that godawful dial-up modem connection sound that’s been dormant for years. While the fancy-for-the-’90s flash intro moves across the screen, flashbacks of waiting for a website to load will immediately inundate your mind and piss you off for all those times you lost connection because someone tried to use the phone in the middle of your web surfing session.

Then this glorious screen appears and replaces those bad memories with romantic feels of Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan’s AOL chats:

Then you’re transported to a page with a menu that allows you to revisit the characters, send a friend a webcard, or explore the Upper West Side film locations and listen to the sounds of New York with Real Player (ZOMG, that was the shit back in the day!!!).

You can also download a You’ve Got Mail desktop and icons, which includes instructions on how to do just that — using Macintosh or Windows 95. For real.

Oh, and if you feel like doing some ol’ school lurking or ditching Gchat for the day, you can read Joe and Kathleen’s mail or if you dare, download AOL messenger and get a feel for what internet convos were like before social media existed. *bristles* Also, there’s an ASCII art gallery that’s pretty cool, you know, for the ’90s.

There you have it, everyone. Go forth and enjoy the ’90s for the day!
