This Website Will Let You Buy a Birkin, and Then Swap It For a New One 3 Months Later
If you’ve ever experienced buyer’s remorse after making a particularly pricey handbag purchase, we feel your pain. And so does ReBag, an online retailer-turned-brick-and-mortar that buys and sells über high-end handbags, like vintage Chanels and rare Birkins.
The company is so sympathetic to the commitment-phobic shopper, in fact, that on they’ve launched an entire program dedicated to helping their customers curate a constantly revolving bag collection.
Through the program, called ReBag Infinity (which launched 10/11) you can buy a bag, use it for up to six months, and then bring it right back for a credit to put toward something else. The company guarantees you’ll get at least 70% of your bag’s original purchase price when you decide to swap-so, say you bought a $1,250 Fendi Peekaboo from ReBag in October, but by January, you have your eye on a Celine Phantom for $1,050. All you’d have to do is drop your Fendi at one of Rebag’s two retail locations (or send photos of it through the app), then swap it for the Celine-and it would only set you back $170.
The best part is that there’s no limit on the number of times you can swap a bag for a new one, so you could feasibly be carrying a new bag each season, while paying an incremental difference each time.
Rebag says the program gives clients the chance to refresh their closets on the regular...and eliminate that dreaded feeling of buyer’s remorse, for good. The company has two storefront locations in NYC (575 Madison Ave and 390 West Broadway) but those outside of the New York area can shop via the Rebag App or website.
