Every year like clockwork, I’d huff and puff when my mom and I went shopping for new winter clothes; I’d hold up a sparkly, likely neon or pink-hued number, and she’d mirror me with a practical turtleneck and black skirt combo. While I’m firm in my stance that there’s always room for glittery attire, she was onto something when trying to build my wardrobe from basics first. Because the truth is, it’s my reliable heather-gray knits and silky navy trousers I reach for most when temperatures start to dip — I want my clothes to feel like a warm and cozy hug, but not send my style into frumpy chaos.

For what it’s worth, my winter basics earn me the most compliments from co-workers and friends because of their ability to elevate my overall wardrobe to something sophisticated and put-together, even if all I’ve done is sneakily swap around the same seven clothing items for the past few weeks. The good news? A few of my beloved foundational pieces are still on sale for Cyber Monday.

I’m shopping for these seven extended deals that will take my jumbled cold-weather closet from zero to hero (and won’t fall victim to this year’s trend cycles):

Madewell Brightside Crop Turtleneck

Of course, we all know that the humble turtleneck is an essential part of every seasonal wardrobe for the way it can transition summer slip dresses into wearable winter clothing and its adorable way of peeking out over cable-knit collars. While hunting down the best one can send you on a Goldilocks-style quest, I found this Madewell top to be just right. Its silky jersey fabric is thin enough to wear under body-hugging dresses and its softness creates a smoothing barrier between your skin and itchy wool sweaters. Plus, its slightly cropped length will only play favor to your proportions if you decide to wear it with high-waisted pants, and it means you’re not awkwardly tucking in bulky fabric to slim-fitting skirts.

The turtleneck comes in five neutral colorways that offer endless versatility, but I’m partial to the moody forest green and sweet cornflower blue to punch up the blacks and grays that flood winter attire. Since all five colors are majorly marked down, why not grab a couple?

Splendid Harlow Sweater

Splendid

Take it from the likes of Meghan Markle, there’s just something so alluring about an off-the-shoulder design. Thankfully, the once-summer staple extends well into the winter with cozy options like the Splendid Harlow Sweater. I love how the darling cut allows you to get more styling opportunities by wearing it asymmetrically or bearing both shoulders. Plus, it effortlessly marries casual design details, like the slightly slouchy fit of the balloon sleeves and ribbed fabric, with more sophisticated ones, such as the silhouette-flattering cropped fit and luxurious, wool-cashmere blend fabric. What’s even better is that the sweater’s material will envelop you in a blanket of warmth, but it is still plenty breathable to prevent you from overheating under coats and scarves. And, since it’s on sale, this is the ideal time to invest in a higher-quality piece that will survive several seasons.

Spanx The Perfect Oversized Blazer

Spanx

Yes, a cardigan or classic trench coat is certainly outerwear we couldn’t survive without (if we’re living fashionable lives, that is), but we’re equally beholden to this Spanx blazer and the transformational qualities it has on all of our winter outfits. Its slightly oversized fit and stretchy ponte fabric layer seamlessly on top of heavier fabrics without looking bulky, instantly turning a casual oversized sweater into appropriate office attire. Additionally, despite feeling relaxed and lived-in, there’s practically no way you’d feel undressed in the thoughtfully cut silhouette that hits at the most flattering points for a streamlined, classic look every time, even when we’re just wearing it with a T-shirt à la Amal Clooney.
