  • Season 8 of When Calls the Heart is set to return on Sunday, February 21 at 9 p.m. ET on Hallmark Channel.

  • The season 7 finale caused many Hearties to wonder if Elizabeth would pick to be with Nathan or Lucas.

  • Show creator Brian Bird recently hinted on Twitter that fans may finally get an answer in the upcoming season.

Hearties, it's almost time to head back to Hope Valley! Following the disappointing news about the shelved Christmas special, Hallmark Channel recently announced that When Calls the Heart will return for a 12-episode season on Sunday, February 21.

Needless to say, fans are ready to get some closure after a heart-stopping season 7 finale in April. Elizabeth, who spent the entire season toying between Lucas and Nathan, seemingly confirmed that her heart was set on Nathan after giving him "a hug heard around the world." This was her natural response after Nathan appeared safe and sound despite rumors that he'd been shot and killed during a standoff with a prisoner. Just moments before, however, she went on a "non-date" with Lucas.

The finale ultimately left fans with one giant question: Will Elizabeth choose to be with Nathan or Lucas?

Leading up to season 8, Erin Krakow, who plays Elizabeth on the show, has promised fans that "there will be romance in season 8." At one point, she even joked that Elizabeth "won’t have to hug herself much longer... 😉"

Meanwhile, show creator Brian Bird continued to stir the pot, reassuring Hearties in a cryptic tweet last week that "decisions get made in Hope Valley" during the eighth season.

Of course, this is just what Hearties want to hear, which is why many took to Twitter to share their guesses about who Elizabeth will pick. "If this means that Elizabeth has chosen Nathan, I will say thank you in advance...," one wrote. "My guess is that Nathan will be a happier man this season. Looking forward to the new season and all the exciting new storylines," said another.

Although fans seem divided on who they want Elizabeth to end up with, it's clear that everyone is happy that the love triangle will finally come to an end. "Thank goodness for that. The triangle needs to be put in its box once and for all," one fan commented, summing up the feelings of Hearties everywhere.

While it's unclear how early in the season fans will get answers, there's a good chance that Elizabeth's decision may be happening within the first few episodes. It's promising, especially since Brian previously mentioned that season 8 will start with "a boom."
