Here ye, here ye! It appears that Dua Lipa has found “New Love.” This time with French film director Romain Gavras.
In case this is news to you, let’s recap their relationship so far. The couple were first linked in February 2023 when the “Dance The Night” singer, 27, and filmmaker, 42, were spotted leaving Netflix’s BAFTA after-party in London together, per the Daily Mail. “Dua and Romain have been quietly getting to know each other for several months,” an insider told The Sun after the photos surfaced. “They have been enjoying spending time together. The pair met each other’s close circles over the festive period and have lots in common.” A few days later, the pair were seen holding hands while leaving the Saint Laurent Paris Fashion Week show, per photos obtained by the Daily Mail.
In May 2023, the couple made their red carpet debut at the 76th annual Cannes film festival—seemingly confirming their relationship. After the event, Dua posted a carousel of photos to Instagram highlighting her gorgeous gown, oh, and Romain, too. “Hier soir à Cannes avec mon cœur,” read the caption, which translates to, “Last night at Cannes with my heart.”
And if you’re wondering if the “Don’t Start Now” singer has taken the Athena director on one of her oh-so fabulous seemingly year-round vacations (seriously, her job was beach even before her Barbie costar popularized the phrase) the answer is: yes. In July 2023, the couple traveled to the Greek island of Sifnos, according to People, where their duty was literally to sunbathe by the Mediterranean Sea, drink wine, eat fresh seafood, and love up on each other for a few days.
If it appears that these two have a romance-induced “Fever” for one another, it’s because they do, at least according to body language expert Karen Donaldson. Ahead, Donaldson analyzes and explains what Dua and Romain’s body language reveals about their budding romance.

Here, Dua and Romain give off the impression of being two peas in a pod, says Donaldson. They’re “exhibiting the ‘in sync’ power couple walk,” she explains, meaning their strides match and their demeanor is self-assured.
What’s more: The way they are holding hands is very telling, Donaldson adds. Their interlaced fingers with their palms pressed against each other say they are connected on more than a physical level. “It also highlights the reciprocal feeling [they appear to] have for each other.”
Their relationship feels balanced and easy-breezy.
“This image signals that they think of each other as equals,” says Donaldson. Despite being in the middle of walking down a red carpet, they pause to turn their bodies fully towards one another and have a cute li'l chat.
While these two may or may not be causing traffic on the red carpet—you can't rush romance, okay?!—it’s apparent that their bond is solid. “The fact that they are facing one another, both leaning in and have ‘open physical postures’ is a sign of an ease between them,” Donaldson says. Being attentive towards your partner also shows a high level of respect, per Donaldson.
Romain is always ready to protect Dua—and she knows it.
Here, Romain takes on the role of guide and protector as he wraps his arm around Dua’s waist, says Donaldson. Also worth noting is the placement of his other hand on his stomach, which, according to Donaldson, “signals a readiness for any situation.”
Dua, for her part, walks ahead unbothered. She’s owning the spotlight and “showcasing that she feels safe in his presence,” says Donaldson.
They take pride in their connection—especially Romain.
In this image, Romain’s hand placement on Dua’s upper buttocks demonstrates “a mix of being a supportive partner, a display of their intimate connection, and a tad bit of possessiveness,” says Donaldson. But not in a controlling way, per se—he’s simply signaling to the world: “That’s my lady.” (And fair, I'd also want to make that clear if I had the Dua Lipa by my side!)
