What to Watch the Week of December 3: Netflix’s My Life With the Walter Boys Is The Summer I Turned Pretty Meets The Fosters

Netflix premieres the YA series My Life With the Walter Boys this Thursday, which is a mix of The Summer I Turned Pretty, The Fosters, and Party of Five. Based on the best-selling book of the same name by author Ali Novak, the series comes from the producers of The Kissing Booth and follows 15-year-old Jackie as she must pack up and leave her life of privilege in New York City after the tragic death of her parents.

She moves to rural Colorado with the large boisterous Walter family (Suits star Sarah Rafferty plays her mom's best friend and now guardian). Once she gets her bearings, she becomes entangled in a love triangle with two of the Walter boys, resulting in a lot of mixed signals, teenage angst, and hormones.

It's an easy binge, perfect for a lazy Sunday, and will help fill that Virgin River scenic void (you know what I'm talking about). Meanwhile, Dancing With the Stars airs its finale this Tuesday as the five remaining couples battle it out on the ballroom floor. It's the first time there's been that many couples heading into the finale. Will it be Alyson Hannigan and Sasha Farber, Ariana Madix and Pasha Pashkov, Charity Lawson and Artem Chigvintsev, Jason Mraz and Daniella Karagach, or Xochitl Gomez and Val Chmerkovskiy?

There's also plenty of holiday movies this week. Freeform continues its 25 Days of Christmas (you can view the schedule here), while Lifetime and Hallmark keep cranking out the hits. Hanukkah starts on Thursday this week, so stay tuned next Sunday for one of Hallmark's best movies yet centering on the Festival of Lights.

In terms of award contenders now that awards season is approaching, Emma Stone gives the performance of her career in the wildly weird Poor Things. It's the kind of thing you can't even explain—you just have to see it. Or you can watch the trailer below to get a taste of what's to come.

My Life With the Walter Boys (Netflix): This 10-episode heartwarming coming-of-age story follows 15-year-old Manhattanite Jackie Howard who moves to Colorado after a tragic accident. Her guardian is her mother’s best friend, who is raising 10 kids with her husband. While settling into her new, chaotic countryside home, Jackie is determined to keep her goal of getting into Princeton a reality all while wrapping her head around her feelings for two very different Walter brothers: Alex and Cole.

It's based on the novel of the same name by Ali Novak, and the cast includes Nikki Rodriguez as 15-year-old Jackie, Sarah Rafferty as Katherine, and Marc Blucas as George. Streaming

Julia (Max): The sixth episode, titled “Chartwinkerie,” is written by Kate Fodor and Thaddeus McCants and directed by Melanie Mayron. Here's the official logline: “While WGBH prepares for their annual fundraiser, Julia receives an offer from a network with the funds to take The French Chef to the next level.” Streaming

Bachelor in Paradise (ABC): For three straight hours, see who makes it off the island engaged or devastated. Otherwise known as the season finale. 8 p.m. ET/PT, 7 p.m. CT

Leave the World Behind (Netflix): Julia Roberts, Mahershala Ali, and Ethan Hawke star in this dramatic thriller based on the novel of the same name in which a family’s vacation is upended when two strangers arrive at night, seeking refuge from a cyberattack that grows more terrifying by the minute. Sam Esmail serves as director, with Barack and Michelle Obama as executive producers. Streaming

Poor Things (Searchlight Pictures): I guarantee you have never seen a film like this, and you have never seen Emma Stone play such a complex role. Stone plays Bella Baxter, a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn, so she runs off with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a slick and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the world. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation. In theaters

Your Christmas or Mine 2 (Prime Video): James (Asa Butterfield) and Hayley (Cora Kirk) are gearing up for their second Christmas as a couple, which means one thing—more mayhem with the Taylor and Hughes families. Jane Krakowski also joins the cast for the sequel. Streaming

Shark Tank (ABC): Ring in the holiday season as the Sharks look to spread festive cheer to four new entrepreneurs. 8 p.m. ET, 7 p.m. CT

A Grammy Salute to 50 Years of Hip Hop (CBS): This live concert special features Black Thought, Bun B, Common, De La Soul, Jermaine Dupri, J.J.
