Blake Shelton gets a shocking block in 'The Voice' season 23 premiere.

The Voice Season 23 is off to an amazing start with a talented singer like Galveston, Texas-born Savion Wright, who goes by the stage name of Noivas – his name spelled backwards—sort of—taking the stage.

Noivas was one of the four-chair turns on night one for his powerful performance of Sam Cook’s ballad “A Change is Gonna Come,” and he had Chance the Rapper, Kelly Clarkson, and Niall Horan fighting to get him on their team. Blake Shelton, although he pressed his button, was blocked.

“You are an incomparable talent,” Chance said. “I would love to give you the platform to show yourself to the world. I think you’re a voice of this generation. It deserves to be heard. To be honest, I blocked Blake.”

Then he asked the Cowboy, “Did you know it was me?”

“Yes, because you smiled from ear to ear when you looked at me,” Blake said. “I am really taking it in this season. So even the Blocks, I appreciate that because you are threatened by me, so I will take that as a compliment.”

Then Chance was back to trying to convince Noivas to join his team, saying, “You made that song yours. I would love to have you represented on my team.”

Surprisingly, there is already a connection between the two. Novias revealed, “I remember about 2016, you made a challenge go viral and I was actually inspired by you to do my own, first time ever. I was inspired by you to rap. It went viral on social media. I would never have expected that I could rap a little bit, so I thank you for inspiring me to do that.”

Then Kelly made her pitch: “I don’t know if you know this, but I’ve won this show a few times. I’m just saying. And I have a TV show if you want to perform on a TV show. Also, I can rap. I just don’t share that with the world. I think the key thing would be having a coach who is familiar with a show like this and knowing how to navigate.”

But Chance interrupted her with a funny bit, where he said, “No, no, no. I don’t like the way this is starting to feel like a competition,” as every light on the floor turned into his name!

“You only got one choice,” Chance said, pointing to the floor. “You’ve got Chance right here,” and he jumps on each of the other coaches’ lights and they switch to ‘Chance.’

“I want you to win this show and I want you on Team Chance,” he wrapped up.

Last but not least, Niall did his bit, saying, “You gave us so many beautiful, sensitive moments at the start. I knew straight away you were playing the guitar. It’s incredible what you’re able to do. I don’t make this kind of music but sometimes the best things happen when opposites come together. Please consider Team Niall.”

Then Novias gave him hope, saying, “I actually consider myself a pop artist.”

Next, Blake brought it to its conclusion, saying, “I’m not part of this, so let me say, ‘Who do you pick as your coach?’”

Novias told him, “Blake, I hate that you got blocked because I was going to choose you.”

And Kelly used that as an opportunity to get in one last point for her team, “Then you don’t want to go with the guy [meaning Chance] that took that opportunity away.”

“This is so hard. I am going to trust my gut here,” Noivas said.

What did his gut tell him? His gut had him choose Chance as his coach.
