Watch Two Jewelry Experts Discuss the Most Magnificent Jewels of the Season

From Town & Country

On December 10th, Sotheby's will hold its Magnificent Jewels Auction, a treasure trove of pieces from historic jewelry houses like Cartier, Harry Winston, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Tiffany & Co. Sotheby's Frank Everett recently paid a visit to the office of Town & Country Editor in Chief Stellene Volandes to explore highlights from the upcoming sale.

They point to several stunning pieces, like a 14.37 carat Fancy Vivid Yellow Diamond Brooch from Verdura and a Carvin French “Majestic Pink” Fancy Colored Diamond Bracelet sourced from the nearly exhausted Argyle mine in Australia. The Carvin bracelet, Volandes notes, is particularly extraordinary, given how rare pink diamonds are.

The December sale is also characterized by a number of pieces with notable provenance, including jewels owned by Charlotte Ford (the daughter of tycoon automaker Henry Ford II and onetime wife of Stavros Niarchos) and Princess Natalia Pavlovna Paley, a Russian aristocrat and first cousin of the last Russian emperor, Nicholas II. Pieces once belonging to silent film actress Mary Duncan Sanford, who married the polo player Stephen Sanford, are also included in the sale.

Take a look at the video above to see all the highlights from the upcoming auction, which will be held at 10:00 am at Sotheby's New York on December 10. Previews will be open to the public from December 5 to December 9.
