Watch a Trailer for the New Netflix Ali Wong Rom-Com, Always Be My Maybe

Ali Wong cowrote and stars in “Always Be My Maybe,” and the trailer gives us hope that Wong is bringing her signature raunchy humor to the rom-com revival.

We already told you the rom-com is having a renaissance, and Ali Wong’s Always Be My Maybe on Netflix looks like the perfect addition to a growing list of movies (like To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, Crazy Rich Asians, and Second Act) that are reviving a once-joyful, if imperfect, genre that has too long been dormant in recent years (blame prestige TV). After her triumphant stand-up specials (2016’s Baby Cobra and 2018’s Hard Knock Wife), Wong has penned the film with Randall Park, who will also costar.

Netflix describes Always Be My Maybe as being about “two childhood friends who find themselves in vastly different socioeconomic situations when they fall in love as adults” (á la Made of Honor or My Best Friend’s Wedding, anyone?). The Hollywood Reporter expands: “Wong and Park star in the feature as childhood sweethearts who have a falling out and don’t speak for 15 years. They reconnect as adults when Sasha, now a celebrity chef opening a restaurant in San Francisco, runs into Marcus (Park), a happily struggling musician still living at home working for his dad.” From the trailer, what we know so far is that Wong brings her hilariously brash sense of humor to the role of Sasha, as Park brings his dorky quirkiness to the role of Marcus.

Always Be My Maybe comes out on Netflix on May 31. Oh, and apparently Daniel Dae Kim and Keanu Reeves are in it, too?
