On what would've been Emmett Till's 81st birthday, the first trailer for the upcoming biopic Till was released on July 25.

Directed by Chinonye Chukwu, the upcoming film focuses on Mamie Till-Mobley, Till's mother, and her pursuit of justice after the lynching of her 14-year-old son in 1955.

The first trailer, which is available to watch on YouTube, shows a bright young Till, played by Jalyn Hall, visiting Mississippi.

His mother Till-Mobley, portrayed by Danielle Deadwyler, tells him to "be small down there," after proclaiming that her son "doesn't know how different things are in Mississippi."

While Till tells the story of Emmett's horrific death, the movie spotlights Till-Mobley's response and how she led a civil rights movement in the aftermath.

One scene in the trailer depicts Till-Mobley's insistence that it be an open-casket funeral, as his mother famously stated, "Let the people see see what they did to my boy."

The trailer also shows Till-Mobley speaking to a crowd of people, stating, "The lynching of my son has shown me that what happens to any of us anywhere in the world had better be the business of us all."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new movie is based on the research of documentarian Keith Beauchamp, who knew both Till-Mobley and Emmett's cousin, Simeon Wright. Wright witnessed Emmett's kidnapping and consulted on the movie before his death in 2017.

A recent docuseries called Let The World See, which aired on ABC at the beginning of 2022, recounts Till-Mobley's story along with the podcast Reclaimed: The Story of Mamie Till-Mobley.

There was also a limited series called Women of the Movement that featured Adrienne Warren as Till-Mobley, which came out on ABC and Hulu in January.

Till will premiere at the 60th New York Film Festival, which takes place from Sept. 30 to Oct. 16. It will also be released in select theaters on Oct. 14 before opening everywhere on Oct. 28.
