Watch: “Terrifying Imperfect Cave” With Nate Florence, Torrey Meister, and More

We still can't believe people consider this wave rideable.

Breaking over a craggy and imperfect shelf, rocks literally pop out of the water in the midsection of this wild slab in Portugal. According to those who surf it, if you fall on drop, you might be OK. Fall at the end, and you'll likely come out unscathed.

But if you fall in the middle?

Well, you're basically f--ked. That's where the pinnacles of reef stick out of the water, and where many a pro surfer has been injured over the years, including John Florence.

In the clip above, filmed by Portugal transplant Peyton Willard, hard chargers like Nate Florence, Torrey Meister, and a few others decide to give The Cave a go on a super sketchy day. Not only is it heavy and imperfect, but a devil wind (blowing up the face) adds another element of danger to the day, as if this wave needed any more challenges.

Raw and (mostly) unedited, Willard brings us along as the day unfolds — makes, falls and all. Click play to get your heart racing from the safety of your screen.
