Taylor Swift is ready to celebrate Pride Month, giving a surprise performance at the historic Stonewall Inn in New York City on Friday. During Stonewall’s pride celebration honoring the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Inn riots, Swift surprised fans by giving an acoustic performance of “Shake It Off.”

“I heard that this is Jesse’s favorite song to do at karaoke,” Swift said as she came on stage during actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s presentation. “So if there’s anything you feel like you want to jump in on, if there’s like, your part that you’re really good at, then, just sing, dance, just be yourself. This is a really safe space.”

Turns out, Ferguson was in on the surprise. After the performance he tweeted: “I’m so happy I don’t have to keep this secret any longer. Look who came to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Stonewall at the Stonewall Inn. @taylorswift13, you are a gem. Thank you for everything you do for the LGBTQ community.”

Swift has recently become more vocal about her support for LGBTQ rights. On June 1 she posted a letter to Tennessee Senator Lamar Alexander asking him to support the Equality Act.

“Let’s show our pride by demanding that, on a national level, our laws truly treat all of our citizens equally,” she wrote in her caption.

On Friday she released her latest single, “You Need to Calm Down,” where she sang about the treatment of the LGBTQ community. The song includes the lyrics: “You just need to take several seats and then try to restore the peace / And control your urges to scream about the people you hate / ’Cause shade never made anybody less gay.”

And to think Pride Month has only hit the halfway mark...
