Watch Taylor Swift Cry Over a Banana After Getting Lasik Eye Surgery

Taylor Swift got quite the hilarious surprise during an appearance on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon last night. The singer was there to promote her appearance this weekend on Saturday Night Live (alongside this week's host, Fleabag star and creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge), but it seems Fallon and her mom, Andrea, were in cahoots ahead of the show.

Turns out that Swift recently underwent Lasik eye surgery to correct her vision, and she certainly seemed surprised when Fallon asked her if she had the procedure. "I did," she said. "How did you know that?" As the host goes on to inquire about whether they gave her pain pills or laughing gas, she replies, "They definitely give you some pretty hard-core pills after you have a laser in your eye. What is going on?"

Then Fallon reveals that Swift's mom filmed her while she was drugged up postsurgery—and sent him the video. And it's pretty amazing. We get to see the singer (in postsurgical goggles) trying to find a snack and then freaking out over a banana. As she removes one from the bunch, she's super bummed out. "That wasn't the one I wanted," she says, as her mom tells her she can't cry and helps her get the exact banana she wants. But now, what to do with the other banana that Swift says "doesn't have a head"—basically it's open at the top.

She then crawls into bed to enjoy her snack. When her mom warns her not to fall asleep eating, she hilariously says, "I’m not asleep, my mind is alive!”

It's pretty great to see a totally unfiltered Swift join the internet tradition of loopy people after medical procedures à la "David After Dentist." Even a superstar's mom is not above embarrassing her in front of the world. “That’s on television,” Swift tells Fallon. “She was kind enough to drive me there but cruel enough to film it and give it to you!” She then muses about how far this video will go online, citing the #DrunkTaylor meme from the summer.

We're just hoping Andrea Swift has more videos saved on her phone that she'll choose to share with the rest of us.
