Watch Stray Kids’ Killer Debut Performance at the VMAs

Stray Kids know how to put on a show, so it should come as no surprise that the K-pop group blew up the stage during their MTV VMA debut tonight. The eight-member band performed their 5-Star hit “S-Class,” which just earned them the VMA for Best K-pop earlier this evening. Their shocked reactions to the win is priceless.

“First of all, we'd like to thank the VMAs for inviting us,” Bang Chan started in the group’s acceptance speech. “You know, we've been making our music ever since the start of our career, but to receive this award really means a lot to us.”

Felix jumped in and added, “We just want to thank our label, JYP Division 1, and we want to thank Republic Records. And also we wanna thank our fans, our STAYS, for being so supportive and please, we have so much to show you guys, so please look forward to the future.”

They returned to the stage later in the ceremony to deliver a dynamic performance, bursting with high energy and flawless choreography. (Did you expect anything less?)

While speaking to Billboard earlier this year, the group explained the significance of the song and what it was like making it.

Changbin said “S-Class” captures the band’s “freshness” and daring energy. “The track embodies the message, ‘The strangest among the unusual, the brightest of the special.’ What’s special about this track is how fresh it feels because we used various sound sources and song forms which create the illusion that there are a number of different tracks combined as one,” he continued. “I’d say the unique and addictive rhythm in the hook is what especially stands out.”

Hyunjin added, “While all of the tracks we considered for the title were great, we ended up choosing ‘S-Class’ as the title because this was the song that really screamed Stray Kids. Experimentation isn’t really something that’s new to us because we’re always trying to push our boundaries. I think this helps us strengthen our distinctive color.”

Changbin also said that when listening to the track, “I could distinctively imagine it going with a very Stray Kids-esque performance.” No doubt that’s what they delivered tonight.
