In an interview with Variety in 2023, Christine explained why the Browns wanted to do Sister Wives in the first place. “We needed to be heard, polygamous people,” Christine said. “We wanted people to know that we’re just regular people who are just doing our best to raise kids and have a big, great, awesome, happy family.”

Howard Lee, president of Discovery Networks and TLC, added of the first time he met the family, “We knew we had something special. It was completely different from anything that we all consider what defines family.”

He continued, “It’s endlessly watchable to see how one man and his four wives navigate each of their relationships. It was just so incredibly unusual to see four different relationships happening at once under one roof separately.”

Will there be a Sister Wives Season 19?

Sister Wives Season 19 hasn’t been confirmed as of writing this. However, executive producer Chris Poole confirmed to Variety in 2023 that he plans to continue the series with its original cast for as long as he can, despite only three of the four sister wives still being married to Kody. He also confirmed that he would be open to spin-offs of the series.

“Of course I would love to [do spinoffs] and I think people would love to see what happens to each one of them. But fortunately, we’re in a place right now where we’re covering that on Sister Wives,” he said. “Nobody’s disappearing from the show.”

Discovery Networks and TLC president, Howard Lee, added, “I hope Sister Wives doesn’t end. Poole continued, “There’s always something going on. I am confident there’s always going to be something going on, because they are who they are.”

Christine, for her part, also told Variety that she still views Kody and her follow wives as a “family” despite their recent drama. “We’re all still a family,” she said. “Hopefully it just gets less awkward.”

Poole also noted how Christine leaving the family in Season 17 affected the series goign forward. “Christine leaving the family was a massive event that really shook up the entire family. But we’ve shot quite a bit of footage since then,” he said. “It continues to be just as interesting and dramatic because, as much as Christine’s left, Kody is still the father of her children. They still have to interact and figure that out.”
