Selena Gomez made her triumphant return to the stage tonight, singing her new songs "Lose You to Love Me" and "Look at Her Now" live at the American Music Awards. Gomez put her heart into the performance, doing an emotional version of "Lose You to Love Me" first, and then transitioning into her more upbeat song "Look at Her Now" at the end.

She started in black and white, singing "Lose You to Love Me." She smiled and waved at the end when she sang "It's goodbye to us," as if she was hoping Justin Bieber, the ex she is believed to have written the song about, was watching.

Taylor Swift lost it when Gomez transitioned into "Look at Her Now." Cameras caught Swift dancing and cheering throughout the second half of Gomez's performance. On stage, there was spirited dancing and a lot of joy from Gomez:

Bieber was not at the ceremony tonight to see this firsthand, nor was his wife Hailey Baldwin.

The American Music Awards stage has been special to Gomez throughout the years. She performed her first intimate Justin Bieber-inspired breakup song, "The Heart Wants What It Wants," there in 2014. In 2017, she sang "Wolves" on stage in one of her first performances since her Revival tour ended and she took a break from the spotlight.

During her 2016 acceptance speech for Favorite Female Artist, Gomez spoke about the significance of the AMAs. "In 2014, this stage was actually the first time that I was authentically 100 percent honest with all of you," she started. The November 2016 awards was her first public appearance since she took a break in August 2016.

"I think it's safe to say that most of you know a lot of my life whether I liked it or not. And I had to stop. Because I had everything, and I was absolutely broken inside. And I kept it all together enough to where I would never let you down, but I kept it too much together to where I let myself down¬All I can say from the bottom of my heart is I am so grateful that I have to opportunity to be able to share what I love every single day with people that I love and I have to say thank you so much to my fans because you guys are so damn loyal and I don't know what I did to deserve you. But if you are broken, you do not have to stay broken. And if that's anything, whether you respect me or not, that's one thing you need to know about me is that I care about people. And thank you so much for this. This is for you, thank you."
