Watch: Scoring Off-the-Map Slabs in South Sumatra

Indonesia is the most wave rich zone in the world.

But it's also the most crowded. At least that's the case in Bali, and at many of the other well-know zones between the Mentawais and Lombok.

Still, it is possible to score empty slabs — you just have to dig a little deeper, drive a little further, and stray from the 5-star accommodation, world class food, nightclubs, and health spas.

Like Sheldon Simkus above.

"Earlier in the year we traveled to South Sumatra in Indonesia for a QS event, after not progressing we stayed and found some unbelievably fun waves to surf," says Simkus in the description with this clip. "Here's a few minutes of some of the better surfs we had on the trip. Good fun surfing with some very talented surfers from Aus and a massive thanks to my good mate Owen Milne behind the camera filming us all surf. Huge thanks to Dean Fergus @ Secret Sumatra Resort for getting us into some world class waves."

While these waves aren't exactly a brand new discovery, they are still fairly hush hush, and you probably won't immediately recognize them. Sure looks fun to get slabbed with 5 friends, rather than 50.

Better get on it soon, though.
