Watch: "Saudade," a Short Film With Victor Bernardo

Longing.

That's what the title of Album Surfboards' new short film translates to.

It's a fitting name since watching Saudade made me long to surf like Brazilian pro surfer Victor Bernado and rip perfect rights as he does in the film. Released yesterday, the flick follows him through beautiful surf and family flashbacks at home in Brazil.

Album captioned the video above on its YouTube page:

"An untranslatable, positive feeling of missing home and family, which reminds him of where he came from and what brought him here."

The film opens with Bernardo and a quad as he narrates the film speaking his native language, Portuguese.

"When I miss home the first images that come into my head is being at the ocean with my father, having lunch with my family... Being at home is very special and I miss it so much when I'm away," he says in the subtitles.

The film moves from a tranquil sunset scene on the beach to a portrait of Bernardo and his parents before flowing into back-to-back perfect waves, shots of the coast, and aerial views of the ocean.

Bernardo spent around 10 years on tour before hanging up his jersey and has been surfing since he was just four years old. He credits his father with getting him hooked on surfing.

The rest of the film shows the regular footer smoothly and effortlessly ripping wave after wave, getting barreled, doing perfect air 360s, and just having fun.

"Surf brought me many good things, many special moments," Bernardo says.

Saudade makes that apparent with its overall dreamy vibe. Check it out.

Viewers were clearly stoked on the edit. Comment include:

"Epic Film... Big props to the crew that shot/produced this film - quality package legends!"

"Just a beautiful edit all around and brilliant surfing by Mr. Bernardo."

"He’s the smoothest guy in the game by far."

"The dream"
