On Saturday, Warner Bros. released the first teaser trailer for The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson in the lead role, surrounding a DC FanDome panel.

The trailer immediately starts off with a moody tone; Nirvana's "Something in the Way" plays softly as viewers wait to meet Robert Pattinson in the bat suit. Paul Dano as The Riddler leaves a series of ominous notes for Batman, signed "from your secret friend."

The first glimpse we get of him comes in the form of a few slow footsteps. Then we see his face, cloaked under Batman's mask, his body language as filled with angst as ever. We also see Pattinson, sans mask, long hair framing his grim face, as chaos continues around him. Did he draw inspiration for this role by listening to The Smiths in a dimly lit room and not smiling for several weeks? Because wow, this dude is giving off some serious dark moods.

But, then again, Batman has never been Mr. Congeniality.

We also get a very quick look at Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, a role that has been filled in the past by Halle Berry, Anne Hathaway, Eartha Kitt, Michelle Pfeiffer, and more. On her Instagram account, Kravitz posted the trailer with the simple caption, "oh. here's #TheBatman - #DCFandome Teaser Trailer 🦇 +🐱."

Her Big Little Lies co-star Reese Witherspoon commented with "More More More!" Her dad, Lenny Kravitz, wrote, "I love you."

At the end of the teaser, "2021," the film's release year, is written like "?0?1," which is supposed to be a reference to the Riddler, but it's also just a whole pandemic mood in itself.
