Rihanna's long-awaited return to the stage is finally here. She performed last night in the 2023 Super Bowl Halftime show.

"When I first got the call to do it again this year I was like, 'Are you sure? I’m three months postpartum. Should I be making major decisions like this right now? I might regret this,'" Rihanna said in a press conference last week. "When you become a mom there’s something that happens where you feel like you can take on the world and can do anything. The Super Bowl is one of the biggest stages in the world. As scary as it was, because I haven’t been on stage in seven years, there’s something exhilarating about the challenge of it all. It’s important for me to do this year. It’s important for my son to see that."

She previously turned down the gig in 2019, telling Vogue she refused due to the NFL's treatment of former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Rihanna said, "I just couldn't be a sellout. I couldn't be an enabler. There's things within that organization that I do not agree with at all, and I was not about to go and be of service to them in any way."

The show was just over 13 minutes long, and Rihanna said there were 39 different versions of the setlist. Viewers can expect hits from her eight albums: Music of the Sun (2005), A Girl Like Me (2006), Good Girl Gone Bad (2007), Rated R (2009), Loud (2010), Talk That Talk (2011),Unapologetic (2012), and ANTI (2016).

Fans have been clamoring for a new album from the Barbadian singer for years, and Rihanna teased she's working on it. "I’m feeling open to exploring, discovering, creating things that are new, things that are different, things that are off, weird. Might not ever make sense to my fans," she said. "I want to have fun with music." She didn't perform new music during the show, however.
