Watch Pro Surfer Jamie O'Brien's POV Footage from the Vans Pipe Masters

Yesterday, Pipeline turned on for the first day of the Vans Pipe Masters.

In this revamped version of the legendary contest, 40 male surfers and 20 female surfers surf three heats with four surfers in each one. From there, the surfer with the highest score advances to the finals.

Jamie O'Brien, one of the North Shore's best barrel riders and winner of the 2004 Pipe Masters, got the invite. Being the busy YouTuber that he is, he documented his entire heat from the lineup in his latest vlog.

O'Brien dropped the edit above yesterday and captioned it:

"Raw POV: Surfing the Pipeline Masters 2023 Jamie O'Brien"

The vlog's almost a half-hour long and begins about 20 minutes before his heat. O'Brien's in his garage trying to pick out a board to ride from an unbelievably huge quiver.

As one of the most prestigious surf contests is happening outside of his house, O'Brien's rushing through installing fins while letting viewers know the plan.

For those who may not know, O'Brien was raised, and still lives, right at Pipeline. So the rush is from his front yard to the lineup.

He lays it out:

"We're gonna go full POV from start to finish in the heat and show you a little bit behind the scenes."

O'Brien paddles out to his heat with fellow local chargers Makai McNamara, Eli Olson, and Koa Rothman.

He's optimistic and says:

"It's a nuts one. Boys gonna get nuts, hopefully, get a couple of crazy ones. That's all we can hope for. The talent's out here, there's waves. All we can do is hope a mental one comes and we'll get so barreled."

Sounds like a plan.
