Coco Ho, former championship tour competitor and North Shore ripper is a women's surfing icon.

The sister of Mason, daughter of Michael, and niece of the late Derek Ho, Coco is breaking into a part of surfing with a line of surfboards fit for women.

Guy Hagi, Hawaii's iconic weatherman, talks to Ho about the new boards in the video below.

In the news segment above, Hagi opens by saying:

"Coco Ho used to compete on the World Tour. She's not on tour anymore, but she's still ripping alongside her brother Mason and her dad Michael.

"And now, she's spreading the gospel of surf to more wahine. In fact, she's here to talk about her new line of surfboard design especially for women.

"Howzit Coco? Tell me more about this new venture."

Ho responds:

"Good morning, Guy. Yes, I'm so excited we just launched XO COCO this week, on Monday. It's been a year, maybe over a year, in the works. The gist of it is to have stock standard dimensions for females because that's what's missing in the market."

She explains that the motivation behind the new boards is simple—women are generally smaller than men.

Ho adds:

"The main part of all the dimensions is width and thickness distribution of where the thickness is. So now there's a lot of stock standard boards for sale online with good dimensions for females."

While Ho's been riding boards shaped by Matt “Mayhem” Biolos for a long time, she ventured out with a new shaper for the new boards.

According to XO COCO:

"XO COCO is a surfboard company designing equipment specifically for and with women.

The result of a collaboration between professional surfer Coco Ho and shaper Matt Parker, we seek to employ women at every stage of the surfboard building process, from supply to operations to wave riding."

They've got 'em all, Ho says:

"We have everything, the basics, five models. Shortboards, high-performance twins, fishes, mid-lengths, and a retro single-fin channel bottom as an ode to the past."

Soft tops are coming soon.
