Watch Prince William Play It Cool While Presenting Honor To 'GoT' Star Emilia Clarke
  • Prince William honored actor Emilia Clarke and her mom, Jennifer, on Thursday.

  • Both women were appointed their MBEs (which stands for Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire).

  • Emilia and her mother were recognized because of SameYou, the brain-injury and stroke survivor charity they co-founded in 2019.

There’s nothing like watching a real-life royal and a fictional royal unite. At Windsor Castle on Thursday, Prince William met with actor Emilia Clarke and her mother, Jennifer, to present them with honors for their charity work. Emilia is best known for playing Daenerys Targaryen on HBO’s Game of Thrones.

Both women were appointed their MBEs (which stands for Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire). These awards are given out by members of the royal family to recognize the recipients’ contributions to the arts, charity work, or public service. Emilia and her mother were recognized because of SameYou, the charity they co-founded in 2019, which aims to develop better recovery treatment for brain-injury and stroke survivors. (Emilia herself suffered from two aneurysms in the early 2010s.)

In a clip posted to the official Instagram account William shares with his wife, Princess Catherine, Emilia and her mother talked about the great honor of receiving the appointment.

“To have an award like this, it really is kind of [the] cherry on the cake,” Emilia says in the video. “I think people are really taking us more seriously,” her mother adds. “And trying to figure out why we’re doing this—and we’re doing it to try and help other people, who have been doing it for a lot longer than us, make the changes that are so desperately needed for people.”

We wonder if Prince William felt a little starstruck, given that he and his wife have spoken publicly about their love of Game of Thrones. In 2017, they sat for a rare Radio 1 interview, in which they commented that one of their favorite activities was getting takeout and catching up on the fantasy series. One of the show’s stars, Tom Wlaschiha (who played Faceless Man Jaqen H’ghar) revealed a few months later that the royal couple even tried to get him to spill spoilers about future episodes.
