Watch Olivia Rodrigo Perform ”Drivers License” At the 2022 Grammys

What other song could Olivia Rodrigo have sung on Grammys night, besides the one that catapulted her to near-overnight stardom? Another pick might have been more unexpected, but “Drivers License” is storybook material. At the 2022 Grammys, she took the stage for a performance of her smash-hit ballad, which started as a TikTok darling before eclipsing the platform entirely, going to become one of the biggest songs of 2021 and a hallmark of Rodrigo's debut album Sour, nominated tonight for multiple Grammys.

The performance, set against a suburban street dress, saw Rodrigo in a white dress, white fishnets and, naturally, a white car. She told ELLE in a recent interview that her forlorn Sour songs will always hold a special place in her heart—and repertoire—but she's ready to move on to happier stories soon. “I’m definitely not as sad as I was when I wrote Sour,” she said. I’m so excited to make my next record and explore more colors and textures and feelings and grow as a human being even more. I’m really stoked for that.”

She later added, “I have a little distance from [the songs] now. I actually just feel so proud of them and it’s so much fun to sing them now. And I’m just so excited to sing them on tour and hopefully people will sing them back. And I just think when you put them out into the world and they help people and make people happy … it’s not quite as devastating anymore. And it’s a very empowering thing.”
